Artist68 – Jennifer Bruno

About

Hey, my name's Jen and I love to paint. I'm an emerging artist, participating in local art shows and will be exhibiting in a small local gallery at the end of this month through out the summer. I love bright bold colors with hard lines, depends on my mood. Sometimes I intend to paint images and other times I like to see where to paint takes me! www.majesticmajenta.blogspot.com

Watercolor originally intended to be the ocean, sky and a sunset. Wasn't satisfied with it, flipped it sideways and added the image.

Try pine, or even plywood check out home depot or Lowes. I don't think you'll ruin it, it's going to come out really cool once you roll the ink over it, I just feel you can't mess those things up. Sometimes I get the best results from something I never intended to do. LOL
Perhaps the wood you were working with was too hard? Have you tried pine? Linoleum is very soft and I work with small hand held tools. Perhaps if you had clamps, you could attach the wood or the linoleum down on the corner of a work bench or table so both your hands were free there fore you wouldn't cut your hand while trying to hold the wood down and carve with the other? You can use basically any surface that is soft.

I can tell you how to apply different colors with watercolor like the photo of the wolf. First let me say that I took an image and painted it in completely different colors than it would be normally. I substitue the dark greys with violet and the lighter fur with rose. I use a light wash over a sketch and let it dry and I continue to wash a a slightly darker wash each time after the last application has dried. I also worked with a large very wet flat brush. I allow the colors while they are wet to blend on the paper with out mixing them with the brush. You can do this!
