Artist's Statement:
Chris Jones is a self taught artist living in the Victorian seaside town of Ventnor on the Isle of Wight, in the UK.
Using a mixture of digital photography and image manipulation software, Chris’ images present themselves as altered realities; scenes that are at once familiar, simultaneously obscure, bizarre, puzzling or alien.
Chris’ photography is greatly influenced by the ongoing and often tenuous balance between the dark and light sides of human perception. Of particular interest are the chemical reactions, thoughts and moods that translate, perceive and decode the world outside of us.
Brief bio:
Chris' work has been featured in a number of on-line magazines, and blogs. Of note, he has been recently published in Carpaccio Magazine's Guide to Emerging Artists - an influential showcase for upcoming artists worldwide. He has also been collaborating with French artist, Cendrine Rovini in a series exploring male and female equilibrium. Chris continues to push his work into new territory, working on a number of personal art projects, with experimental digital photo-collage, mixed media, and exploring narrative via sequential works.
Chris debuted his work at the Homegrown Contemporary art exhibition as part of Ryde Art Festival in 2009.
In his spare time Chris enjoys walks, reading, watering plants, music and being a father to two young boys.
Influences:
Chris draws his influences from a wide range of sources; the unexplainable 'something' of William Eggleston's photography, and the cinematic, eerie but meticulous stillness of Gregory Crewsdon, have had a big impact. Also, the 60s psychedelic poster art of Rick Griffin, Victor Moscoso and Wes Wilson, whilst not immediately apparent, are a strong influence often surfacing subtly.
Chris also draws inspiration from music, reading, the underground art scene, movies, and the art communities on-line such as Flickr, and Tumblr blogs.
