Rene Bauer is Ragnaroek, a name chosen according to the old lore of our people. He is a young German from Weimar with a love of photography, graphics, medieval, Germanic, blacksmithing and "swordslashing". Although not a graphic by trade he has always taken photos and in the last 3 years found Photoshop as his tool to express himself. For 8 years he has been travelling now, glancing upon the many different faces of this planet.
Ragnaroek believes in freedom, not only in thought but in acting as well, honour and respect towards the good and right people being his values upheld in a time of destruction.
A photo instills a feeling, a thought, a smell, ,a touch, a sound and maybe even a taste. A photo gives warmth, strength, a laugh, a cry, an uplifting or a sad, melancholy feeling. Ragnaroek wants people to look at his work and to get lost in thought, or even only have a subtle feeling - as long as his photos evoke even the slightest emotion he is satisfied.
Ragnaroek shoots with a Canon 500D and processes his shots with Photoshop. When taking photos, he is interested in landscape and people, the animal shots are more or less all taken by Andrea Kaucka, his partner.
As mentioned before, a lot of his photos might seem melancholy, solemn and stark. It seems to be his main theme to invoke such an emotion. Ragnaroek is looking for the other face of this world, maybe not quite free from "a longing for the past" or nostalgia. He considers melancholy to be inspiring for his dreamy landscapes and composites.
The people in Ragnaroek's photos, as you may notice, often stand on top of something, holding their heads high in pride or bowing in respect. This is the heroic in us, the good, rational and "perfect". It is hard to achieve and a very rocky road to understand what "being a human" really means, so those pictures are there to motivate and show, how this moment can be.
