Well, I don't think in terms of struggle, but I don't like the "pretty". But the question is interesting, I think I paint abstract with the mind in the ends of the words. The abstraction is against the narration, the literature. A few days ago I knew about the roman soldiers saids before a definitive battle, "hic meus est dies", "this day is still mine"; We paint against the death, we appropiate the life even in death...
Of course, its only an opinion, an apassionate opinion, and in bad english!
